Micro-current Therapy

Micro current stimulation is a therapy used, when electric current is provided in literally millionths of an amp. It works on a cellular level to help stimulate the healing process. It is based upon the theory that the body's electrical balance is disrupted when one is injured, so that the natural electrical current of the body changes course. Micro- current stimulation restores this balance.

In fact, micro-current therapy can relieve pain, stimulate wound healing, help stimulate the regeneration of injured tissue, provide relief to myofascial trigger points, increase protein synthesis, and stimulate lymphatic flow. This therefore restores the body’s own natural current.

When micro-current therapy is used to help heal injured tissue, it restores the natural current flow to the tissue. This in turn allows the cells to regain their own natural energy flow. When injury occurs, the area that has been injured has a higher electrical resistance than the surrounding tissue does. This in turns decreases and perhaps even stops electrical flow through the injured area, which impedes the healing process and promotes inflammation. When micro-current therapy is used, this resistance is reduced, which allows electricity to flow through and therefore restore normal function. This, in turn, helps stimulate natural healing.

In addition, micro-current therapy can be used at specific frequencies for a variety of tissues and conditions. This can often soften tissue and decrease pain, which provides long-lasting pain relief that may even be permanent. This has some promising benefits that may also be applicable to current chronic pain conditions.

For example, fibromyalgia and myofascial pain have been shown to be greatly reduced and even eliminated with the use of micro-current therapy. When traumatic injury occurs, such as that which occurs with sports, both tendons and ligaments seem to repair much more quickly, and inflammation and swelling is also reduced.

In addition, soft tissue regeneration is improved. It has also been found that if magnet therapy is combined along with micro-current therapy, the benefits can be amplified.

Still another exciting and possible use of micro-current therapy is to help cure addiction. Behavioral programs such as those used to stop smoking, lose weight, or stop drinking seem to benefit from the use of micro-current therapy as well.

Finally, it may also have anti aging and general health benefits. Thus far, studies have shown that using micro-current therapy can help stimulate and re-hydrate collagen, increase the uptake of nutrients within cells, and significantly stimulate the excretion of waste products, including heavy metal from inside cells. Therefore, micro-current therapy may soon be on the horizon not just as a pain relief therapy for those who have been injured or who are suffering from chronic pain, but as a general health and well-being "maintenance" practice used to sustain good health.

Micro-current can be used for a variety of applications such as:

  • Fibromyalgia

Su Jok Korean Acupuncture

Introduction

Su Jok literally translates into Hand and Foot : (Su means a hand, and Jok means a foot). Su Jok is a form of acupuncture or acupressure therapy, which is highly condensed and focused on the treatment of diseases and disorders by concentrating only on hands and feet.

Unlike classical acupuncture treatment by Su-Jok is accomplished solely on hand and foot which reflects the name of this method. According to the Su-Jok acupuncture system, highly active point's correspondent to all internal organs and parts of body are available on hand and foot. Stimulation of these points gives normalizing influence to the function of diseased organs.
The points are composed in a strict anatomical order, reflecting the structure of the body in a diminished form. This is explained with the fact that the hand and foot reflecting principles of hologram repeat the physical structure of the body, especially in comparison with its architectonic.

Though Sujok treatment is done only in hands & feet it is for all the diseases affecting all the systems & whole body.

Origin

The first information on acupuncture date from the period of finding stone needles (3,000 BC) that are nowadays property of the Korean National Museum and the only direct proof of the assumption that ancient Korea must have been one of acupuncture cradles. There is a written record based on these investigations, which is at the same time the oldest medical book in the world, the book Nei Ching. In translation it means a stone needle and it originates from east part of China.

Basic principles in Su Jok therapy
According to the principles of Onnuri medicine and Oriental Energetic Concepts, diseases occur in human body and mind are purely due to the imbalances of the forces acting on them. Su Jok achieves cure by bringing on balance and harmony of the forces in the body and mind.

Stimulation and Treatment

Su Jok contains many methods of treatment. One method we experience every day is by walking on our feet and working with our hands. This gives us constant, random stimulation on corresponding points; however, purposeful hand and foot massage (also known as hand or foot reflexology) is even better. There are many methods of stimulation besides mechanical pressure, including:

  1. Miniature magnets designed both to give both mechanical and magnetic force stimulation;
    2. Moxibustion in the form of: (a) moxa sticks; (b) moxa the size of rice grains held on the hand or foot by small holders to prevent direct contact; and (c) direct thread moxa;
    3. Massage rollers to stimulate the hands and feet;
    4. Soft lasers;
    5. Miniature hand needles; and
    6. Colored transparent plastic discs placed strategically on charka hand points.

Other methods will be developed based on our technological and biological advancements in understanding on the physical and quantum levels of human functioning.

Conditions for use

Some of the more common disorders frequently treated with Su Jok Acupuncture include:

Weight and Cardiovascular problems

The idea of a kid having cardiovascular disease may seem ridiculous, but it’s not.

A study hosted by the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and the Heart and Stroke foundation studied 63 obese

children and 55 normal weight children. Researchers evaluated blood pressure, lipids (cholesterol in the blood), echocardiograph exams (ultrasound of the heart and blood vessels) and body mass index (BMI) for each child.

The scientists found that, in the obese children, blood pressure was only slightly higher and cholesterol levels were normal, yet they were shocked to find that the obese children’s arterial health was abnormal. These kids had significantly impaired elastic qualities of the aorta – otherwise known as Atherosclerosis. Their arteries were already hardening!

Typically, atherosclerosis (hardened arteries) is something that only “older” people aged 40+ worry about. Most people never even set foot inside a cardiologist’s office until they are over 35.

According to a 2007-2008 National Health and Nutrition Survey, 17% of US kids aged 2-19 are overweight or obese. That’s over 9 million kids. And an estimated 15% more are at risk for becoming overweight.

Is your kid one of the 9 million that are at risk for heart disease?

If your child is overweight or if your family has a history of overweight or obesity, now is the time to take action. These days, most schools are cutting recess and physical education time, as well as sports and other recreation programs. The answer is in your hands, parents. It’s a matter of life and death – literally!

Here are at Amita Holistic Healing Center top recommendations for keeping your children fit, eliminating obesity and staying heart healthy.

  1. Have a variety of nutritious foods easily accessible at home. Stock your fridge with fresh fruit and veggies. For quick snacks, try apple slices with nut butter or carrot sticks with hummus. Don’t keep candy, cakes, cookies, ice cream, and other highly processed junk foods in the home.
  2. Encourage your child to make healthy choices when eating outside your home. Kids love to hang out at fast food restaurants and pizza shops. Help them find things that are nutritious to eat at their local favorite hang-out so they can be with their friends and stay healthy.
  3. Create substitutions for soda. Offer pure water or sparkling water with a splash of cranberry, lemon or lime instead. When juices are consumed, cut with water or check labels to ensure they do not contain high fructose syrup or other added sweeteners.
  4. Get your child active on a daily basis. This can mean signing them up for sports, speaking with your child’s school PTA about lobbying for more physical education time, using after school and weekend family time for physical activities or encouraging them to try dance, yoga or other creative movement groups that focus on fitness.
  5. Use non-food rewards to motivate your child. If your child is used to receiving food as a reward for finishing homework or doing well in sports, try another approach. Reward by taking them to a special event such as a movie, sporting event, theater or a day trip. This will lessen the focus on food, which will help later in life as well.
  6. Notice your child’s response to stress around food. Some kids use food as a way to deal with stress or anxiety. Sound familiar? Maybe you do, too. Find physical activities or another outlet for stress that is a healthier choice. Utilize your child’s school counseling services if necessary.
  7. Lead by example. Cook and eat nutritious food. Make exercise a priority. Deal with stress and anxiety in healthy ways. Include the whole family in planning, shopping for and preparing healthy meals. Kids follow your lead – even if you don’t think they notice. Your behavior makes a difference in their behavior long-term.

If you need some help getting on the right path with these suggestions or if you need assistance in addressing a medical condition that is leading to your child’s weight issue, it’s time to partner with Dr. Tatyana Yakovleva, who specializes in weight issues.

Dr. Yakovleva is an expert in the field and has been supporting families’ health for over 20 years. She will take the time to fully evaluate your child, complete with a comprehensive health history, physical exam and diagnostics and then create a customized treatment plan including the most safe, natural diet and supplement regimens available. Dr. Yakovleva also uses herbs, homeopathy, and many other holistic therapies to gently restore balance to children and adults.

Body energy balancing

Our mind is like a magnet, which draws unto itself its one like, type and kind.

For many of us the power of attraction in our mind is too weak to meet the demands. A magnet can only draw to itself in proportion to its own power. Our mental magnet is greatly reduced in strength by our worries and our fears, and our inflow of good is slowly closed off or muted. If our mental force becomes too weak, we may even repel what little good that is trying to reach us.

Just as we can charge a magnet with electric energy to build up its power of magnetism, so we can our mind. Our mind can be charged with mental energy that builds up our power of attraction.

There is a spiritual law that says you can have anything you are willing to become. We do live in a world that operates by the Law of Attraction and we have a magnetic radius to the energy that we primarily hold.

If we want to bring something into our lives or experience a new result, the place to begin is within ourselves. We can have anything we’re willing to become.

Walk in the world radiating the very thing you want to bring in your life. If you want more friendship, radiate friendship. If you want more love, then be loving to every person you meet in the most appropriate way. But, be that. Be the very thing you’d like to bring in your life.

Each one of us can truly and really have anything we’re willing to become.

Try our body energy balancing techniques. You can be amazed on how effective it can be. Call our office at 718-375-1144

Smoking

Greetings ,
butt-out

October is a month rich with health observance “holidays”. Lung Health Month is among those getting the most press. Anti-smoking campaigns that use the gross-out factor, or try to threaten the ill-effects of smoking clearly haven’t wiped out this very un-healthy habit. Smokers love to smoke. They may feel glamorous or sexy smoking, or they may be wrestling with an addiction that has plagued them for years.

According to the American Lung Association, smoking kills over 390,000 people each year and is the primary cause of preventable deaths in the US, with an additional 50,000 deaths caused by second-hand smoke. Most smokers are well aware that lung, mouth and throat cancers are consequences of smoking, but may not feel these risks are an immediate threat.

What they may not understand is the OTHER, more immediate risks of smoking that don’t get as much press. Cigarette smoke produces as many as 4,000 chemicals, including heavy metals like arsenic, cadmium, polonium and lead. These toxins are stuck to the leaves, even after processing and get lodged in the tar that collects in the smoker’s lungs and absorbed by their tissues, creating a host of other problems including DNA mutation, brain chemistry imbalance, organ dysfunction and damage to the nervous system that can cause changes in behavior.

Check out the following heavy metals that may create havoc in your system if you smoke.

  • Cadmium - Modulates gene expression and signal transduction, reduces activities of proteins involved in antioxidant defense, interferes with DNA repair which modifies cancer development and brain function.
  • Arsenic - Causes gastrointestinal symptoms such as severe vomiting, disturbances of the blood and circulation, damage to the nervous system, and eventually death. May reduce blood cell production, break up red blood cells in circulation, enlarge the liver, color the skin, produce tingling and loss of sensation in the limbs, and cause brain damage.
  • Lead - May cause anemia, damage to the brain and nervous system, headaches, digestive issues and kidney dysfunction.
  • Polonium - deposited in the soft tissue such as the spleen, kidneys, and liver, with a small amount also deposited in bone marrow. Repeated exposure or large amounts can cause intestinal hemorrhage, anemia, bleeding, overwhelming infections, kidney failure and skin conditions.
Try our new anti smoking program. You may eliminate your smoking habit after one session.

Depression

It has been estimated that over ten million Americans suffer from depression. This alarming statistic certainly says something about our society, style of life, and a lack of spiritual understanding that is pervasive in our existence.

Depression is a mental state characterized by a pessimistic sense of inadequacy and a despondent lack of activity. There are many different treatments for depression from chemical to homeopathic and from meditational to the neuro-stimulation of the brain. Various environmental, bio-chemical and stress factors can cause or exacerbate depression. There are psychosocial factors as well: According to Robert Ivker, author of "The Complete Self-Care Guide to Holistic Medicine” psychosocial factors can be broken into the following three category.

1. BODY: Physical and Environmental (Candidiasis - yeast overgrowth, inhalant and food allergies, childbirth-postpartum, hormone dysfunction (PMS, menopause), folic acid or thyroid gland deficiency, lack of exercise and obesity.)
2. MIND: Mental and Emotional (grief, loss, failure, addictions, lack of self-expression or stimulation and sense of powerlessness or emotional childhood traumas.)
3.SPIRIT: Spiritual and Social (Lack of purpose or meaning in life, feelings of isolation; lack of compassion, connection or a committed loving relationship)

Research evidence indicates that brain biochemistry is a significant factor in depressive disorders. For example, individuals with major depressive illness typically have too little or too much of certain brain chemicals, called neurotransmitters.

Traditional methods of battling depression relied on medications, which regulate the neurochemical serotonin and include such well-known names as Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil and Celexa. Other medications, not as widely used due to their massive side effects utilize a different approach – they regulate the level certain enzymes present in a human body that destroy neurotransmitters.

In general, any anti-depressant drug has potential side effects including insomnia, skin rashes, anxiety, headaches, stomach aches or loss of sexual desire – a list that makes a patient wonder whether the medication is worse than the disorder itself. And if the list above doesn’t sound unpleasant, here are the potential side effects of stronger drugs, used to treat atypical depression, e.g. cases that do not respond to traditional medications: dizziness, rise on blood pressure, psychotic symptoms, seizures, stroke and coma.

Luckily, as the depression research continues more treatment possibilities are becoming available and many of them do not require toxic medication with life-threatening side effects. According to Wikipedia, (over 125 research studies) the introduction of an extremely very weak electrical current into the brain stimulates neurotransmitters in humans. The Micro-current Therapy used at Amita Healing Center is typically less than one milliampere (the current needed to power a light bulb is about 11,000 times stronger) and is not only absolutely painless, but also barely sensible.

Human brain produces various wave forms at any given time. Alpha waves are the brain waves one feels when they are alert yet relaxed. Decreased alpha wave activity can lead to various medical conditions. People with psychological disorders, have irregular brain wave patterns – deficiencies of some and excessiveness of others. For example, patients suffering from depression, stress, anxiety, epilepsy, and even schizophrenia have high beta wave power and low alpha wave power. The Micro-current therapy used at Amita Healing Center increase alpha wave activity. The results are often noticeable after one or two sessions. No serious side effects have been reported which makes Micro-current Therapy a much healthier alternative to chemical anti-depressant.
As psychotherapy research progresses, alpha wave enhancement is on its way of becoming the new major tool in fighting mental illness.
